$40 for apartments?

I have a full-time job. I live in a small town. I was thinking of starting a poop scoop business for nice apt. complexes in a nearby town since there are quite alot of them. What would a person charge? I was thinking I could charge $40 per visit. Is this reasonable?

Re: $40 for apartments?

No that's not reasonable....for you!
Determine what you must make per hour, then bid each as they become interested.

Re: $40 for apartments?

Whether it's worth it to you to do the work for that much money is really up to you, of course. :) In my opinion, if the work takes two hours or less, then $40 is a fair amount to charge. I wouldn't want to do it for that much if it takes three or more hours, though.
It's all a matter of what you are willing to work for, and what the customer is willing to pay, and how close you can get those two figures to agree.
Best wishes! :)

Re: $40 for apartments?

Hi...
Just a tip---Apartment Managers think in "units" so when you set your fee, charge a fee by the number of units in the complex per visit. Of course, not all the tenants will have dogs, but who does and doesn't changes all the time, so just assume they all do. Be sure to walk the entire area and time yourself (and mark, in red ink, on the grounds map where you find piles) Present a proposal to the Apartment Manager in a nice cover with a letter, a proposal sheet, a copy of your Policies (what you will and will not do), the map showing the poop locations, a copy of your business license, a copy of the city ordinance regarding removal of dog waste, and, of course, your business card and brochure. Also, we bill for payment-in-advance like most Service businesses do. (Just ask ATT Cable Services if you could pay the bill AFTER you have watched their programs for the month!)

Don't cheat yourself by charging too low! Apartment or Condo grounds are extremely hard work because you have to walk every square inch every time. It is boring and tiring. Back yards are much more fun (friendly dogs greet you each time), more interesting since the scene changes more often, and you get to rest in your car between each client!

Starting "fresh" in OKC

Hi fellow scoopers!
We have just started "YARD BUTLERS" in Okc, and

tax info done, but are now focusing on the
advertising aspect of this and we have alot of
"fresh" ideas for letting people know who we are
and what we do. We are going to "saturate" all
the vets, groomers & kennells, also all the new
homes ranging in about three counties surrounding
us. If anyone has some helpful info. please

Hi "Yard Butlers"...

If you (or anyone out there) would like a FREE copy of "Cheap Marketing Tricks: A-Z", just send me a $.33 stamped, self-addressed envelope (or $.55 stamped, self-addressed envelope if you would like copies of some of my marketing materials too). If you have a business card and/or brochure already, please include one (for my collection). There are more than 26 ideas, that I personally know work---and they are all slanted toward Poop Scooping! Such a deal!!!

May the Poops be with you in your new business...

THE PARIS CONNECTION

hi there professional pooper scoopers:

i live and work in a west coast downtown city that has recently implemented a special assessment district. basically, downtown property owners pay an assessment on property for maintenance and public safety services beyond what the city provides. one of these services is removing and disposing of doggy doo-doo. considering the vast size of our downtown area (more than 270 city blocks) we are in search of an economical and efficient method for cleaing it up. on a recent visit to paris, i saw a guy (apparently funded by taxpayer money) who rides around on a scooter with a huge container and vacuum and he sucks up all the dog poop on the sidewalks (everyone is paris has a dog and this is a major problem. one constantly has to look down to avoid stepping in it.) this contraption would work wonderfully in our city. is there anyone among you who knows how i can purchase this machine?

thanks

Parvo & bleach

Finally found a veterinary researcher to lend a hand on the parvocide issue. She says 1 part bleach to 32 parts water is good for decontaminating equipment against parvo. Also, once a dog is over 2 years old it is not likely to become infected. For more info try vetcentric.com and search the encyclopedia for "Parvovirus, Canine."

Burn marks in grass

Is there a way to get rid of burn marks in grass from dog urine? Or can I give my dog something with her food so her urine is not so acidic?

Re: Burn marks in grass

Try "Spot Away" from most any pet store.
Also, I've been told that cranberry juice mixed in the dog's water bowl actually helps end the urine smell!?
Good luck,

Re: Burn marks in grass

As far as I know, the only way to get rid of patches already killed by the urine is to dig out those patches and plant grass. You can help prevent the dead patches in the first place by hosing down the area with plenty of water. And yes, there are products you can add to your dog's food, and they are supposed to help prevent the dead spots in the grass. You can find them at pet-supply stores. I don't know if they actually work.
