Minesweepers,
I had my shirts silk screened and I only had a dozen done the first time,I got with my guy and showed him my art work and we got it computerized so all he has to do is put in my disc and his machine pumps them out.I've also done hats and only started with a dozen at a time.

Thanks so much Jerry. I love it!
I've had it for about a week and have already worn it 3 times. I've been asked if I changed the name of my company.

the message board @ PoopScoopKing.com
Fri Dec 14 15:58:08 2001
Although I'm sure Matthew would not have a problem with another scooper message board, I want everyone to realize that's not what we have. It's an Errand Runners board. All of you, my scooper friends, are welcome to post, and I'll be honored if you do so. However, keep your scooping topics on this board. On the Errands board, you can just be friendly, talk about that industry, whatever; but let's talk scooping right here where we always do.
See you at WWW.PoopScoopKing.com

Fri Dec 14 19:56:52 2001
Tell me about it! It was SLUSHING here. 30 mph wind was driving it.
And I got 2 new customers today and they both said "I don't want to go out in my yard".
Dog collars ring,
Don't you know it.
Customers call,
When its pourin'.
A beautiful sight,
I'm happy tonight.
Scoopin' in a driving rainstorm.

Is everyone growing as fast as I am?
Sat Dec 15 20:49:45 2001
I am getting about 6 new clients a week. This is the first winter I have scooped and I was not prepared for this! I got an office assistant just to help me keep up with routing. It is exciting and scarey at the same time... By January I will have 100 clients. Does everyone grow this much in wintertime?

Hi Laura,
With the thousands I spend in marketing each month I am just lately getting back to achieving the 6 new clients a week mark. In the past I have grown by as many as 60 in a month however that has not been lately ans was not through an acquisition. The worst thing you can do is expect that to continue - it won't. We can always hope for the best and work our tails off to continue the growth but when you least expect it, BOOM! the bottom falls out. It's good to plan for future growth but don't do to much in the way of hiring and expanding boarders until you are absolutely sure of things.

PS: Congrats!

Thanks for the advise Red! But these new ones are from my marketing (which I hadn't done at all during the acquistion. And I really didn't put a whole lot into my marketing... One ad in a free pet newsletter was all.. I also got some from the international directory. I am getting the referals, but I am not counting on those continuing for too long.

Business Cycles
Sun Dec 16 00:22:16 2001
Waste removal is generally seasonal, and the seasons and cycles vary with locaton. Here in Michigan, we grow like crazy for 2 months, and the rest of the time it's fairly quiet.

Hey Red,
I was wondering how you found such a small and what looks like a light shovel? I've been attempting to locate a small tool like Mathew discribes in his manual but I have been unsuccesful, can you help or suggest a name brand I should be asking for.
Oh yea! I'm getting my visual from scooperspics.

Shovel
Tue Dec 18 11:27:01 2001
I use the same ones as Red and would not trade them for any other. I have sampled many and they continue to be the best! I found them at a beach store in Maine. I bought up all I could find. If you live or have friends near a beach that may be the best place to look. Like Red said, they are unmarked so I can offer you nothing else except that they were in nearly every run down beach type store I went in (the kind that carries frisbees, sand shovels, kites, etc.) I wish you luck,
Ashlee

Re: tools
Tue Dec 18 01:24:44 2001
Hi Bert,
I really wish I could but I have absolutely no idea who manufactures it and the store I bought it at only carries it around April to June! There's no writing, symbol or identification on it at all :(
It is light but I wish I could find something a little more durable as the ones I bought tend to break too often (I bought everyone they had and still don't think I'll make it through the winter before having to find something else!) The shovel Matthew mentions in his book is a True Temper brand shovel - I found mine at War-mart. Boy is it HEAVY.
Good luck!
-Red
PS: Keep me posted if you find anything that works well for you!

winter tool for poopcicles
Wed Dec 19 13:02:20 2001
I've been using a scooping tool made by "Tin Man" that is a curved metal blade. I'm not giving up the rest of my tools but this one is tops for chipping poopcicles out of ice! The handle is also metal so that means extra weight but some rigging could be done to lighten the load.
I haven't mentioned it before because it isn't the greatest for grass, gravel or bark and the metal reflects sunlight in an annoying way, but it does chop ice and crusty snow very well! (which means it chops up the turds too.) It also cleans up easily.
I paid $13.50 for the "scraper" including postage. They sell a scraper and scoop (their term for the pan) as sets but their extra large pan is nothing compared to the lobby pan we're familiar with. They will sell the scrapers separately.
The manufacturer is:

Hi K9S,
Erin was referring to how we compensate our employees - their pay plan - which could include various bonuses for a job well done etc. She and I have been discussing the issue amongst ourselves for a while. I was surprised she mentioned it one the board because we normally just email each other directly (not that it matters that she posted it to the board).
Hope this answers your question.
Happy Holidays

Customer Survey
Tue Dec 18 13:22:15 2001

Thanks Dan@Doody Free

Surveys
Tue Dec 18 18:08:25 2001
I've been meaning to survey my clients. Another way to get valuable information from them is just to
make it part of signup. You want to know habits of your clients, such as what newspapers they read,
what tv stations they watch, do they use the internet, have email, etc? This is valuable marketing data that
can assist you in finding more clients.
