Shanti,
Just my opinion, but I would lose the part about "Mention our ad and get your 1st service free". Offer them a discount or something. You don't want to offer to clean free on their "first" time, because a lot of people haven't been cleaning up after their dogs for a longgggg time. You could be out there picking up poop for 3 hours!!
Just a suggestion - rest looks good

I would personally change the "first cleaning free" to "one free cleaning."

If their first cleanup has an extra fee for extra waste, you don't want them to be able play symantecs and cite your flyer and claim that was technically their 1st cleaning, and therefore, free.

I have had people try about every way possible to scheme out of their bill!! :)

In reference to my bike ride across the nation for Breast Cancer that I mentioned in my reply "Vets" to Erin(Dirtywork): The website is www.abcride.org--click on 2000 ride to see us! I wrote journal entries on Sept 28, Oct 5, 7, 11, and 16. Click on those dates on the daily journal calendar if you want to read what "bike brain" does to a person! :) Rode my bike about 20 miles today! It got up to 59! Yesterday it was 64! Unbelievable in Iowa in January!! LOVE IT!!! Sorry to all you fighting the snow--our day will come. Shari Addy

I was supposed to be, but they "changed" me as a youth! I'm sure that explains many alternative ideals I have about life! I am left-eye dominate, which means when I shoot my bow or gun, I do it left handed. Interesting... Shari

I'm ambidextrous - does that count??? But I must confess, I scoop mostly right-handed. Our employee is a lefty, so 1/3 of Dirty Work is left-handed :)

Public speaking
Fri Jan 11 10:37:35 2002

A friend of mine asked me if I would be willing to speak for about 15 - 20 minutes at his Kiwanis club breakfast meeting next Tuesday. I, of course, said, "You bet!" It's a small group - about 25 at each meeting.

I already have about 8-10 minutes of the talk built. Now I'm looking for ideas to fill in around that. I think I want to keep it light and humorous. Do you have an anecdote, joke or cute story that you think would be appropriate for this type of group? If you are willing to share it, I would appreciate it if you will either post it here or e-mail it to me within the next couple of days.

Thanks for your help.

Twice a week service
Fri Jan 11 11:33:56 2002

Had my first request for twice a week service. Wondering about pricing it. Matthew's book and I think it was Pete's website, suggest about 1/3 more per week. I don't see that being profitible. You still drive there a second time, scoop the yard a second time .. the only difference being no additional pooh. I was thinking the second service maybe 1/2 the regular price????? Feedback please .. Thanks.

Twice A Week Service
Sun Jan 13 10:23:04 2002

i have found you can charge the same amount for once a week service as in twice a week service

so if you charge $15 for once a week than you charge $ 15 for the other day
so then it is $30 a week the customer pays or if you feel that to much you drop the price down 2 dollars each time making it $26 for the twice a week

Hey stop in at my new message board, http://www.yuckos.com
hope to see you there...

Catherine,

I agree with you about not pricing too low on 2X/week. In our case, driving there generally takes longer than scooping. We have only had one request for 2X/week, but my hunch is that those folk aren't going to be price sensitive to what might amount to a $10 dollar difference over the course of a month. Our twice weekly rate is about 12% less per scoop than our once weekly. We're still playing around with prices since we've only been doing this 9 months.

Hi Catherine,

Both visits should be the same price. I think what you meant was something like: If once a week is $10 then twice a week would be $7.50 per visit ($15 total) - that's the right thinking in my opinion.

That sounds about right. My customers like twice a week service, my workers like twice a week service, I like twice a week service.

Every year, I make my Thursday and Friday service areas smaller. Every year I serve more customers on those days. Every year more people sign up for twice a week service. One reason they do is to get that second cleaning close to the weekend.

I don't offer service less often than weekly on Thursday or Friday. I just don't have time. This allows me to provide close to the weekend for those who are willing to pay for it, and to fill my Monday and Tuesday routes with those who would rather save a few bucks.

Hi Gramps,

That's a very interesting way to do it. So, I would think it costs you quite a few customers - ? Do you find that some people just won't work with you in that manner, i.e. want weekly and must have it on Thurs or Fri but aren't in your Thurs or Fri service area?

Thanks for sharing your MANY years of wisdom and insight,

That's the day available. If you're in the Monday area and you want Fri, I'll try to make Mon/Fri available. Want Friday no matter where you live? Sorry, that's not available in all areas. If you REALLY want Thu or Fri, I make one of those days available in most areas. Don't want to pay a little extra? No Friday service. (Course, I'm a little more polite about it.)

If I gave everyone who wanted Friday service that day, I'd need 20 trucks and employees on Friday that I couldn't use Monday through Thursday because there would be no work those days.

Re: Twice a week service
Mon Jan 14 20:31:55 2002

Cool, I do it the exact same way. We have 5 areas / territories (one for each day of the business week). Because of all the 2x's per week clients, we are in every area twice a week, i.e. Mon / Thurs or Tues / Fri. There is no Saturday territory so the only clients serviced on Saturday are the twice a week ones and a couple that are adamently against Wednesdays. This Wed / Sat program is new for us as we used to only schedule scooping for 4 days a week until my guys decided they wanted more work (aka: more income). Now they have every other Saturday off so that they currently work 11 out of 14 days instead of 8 out of 14 days.

Some people that firmly request a certain day or time are , as a last resort, given that option but only if they are willing to pay a much higher price for that luxury.

Gramps, you mentioned Mon / Fri as an option is there any other 2x's per week day option and if so what is it? I ask because I wouldn't think you would want to schedul a Tues / Sat or Sun / Thurs - ?

Thanks,
-Red

Most are Tue/Fri, but I also have Mon/Fri, Mon/Thu. In one small area, I have a few Mon/Wed/Fri customers. Per visit price is the same as twice a week. 13 visits times 5 bucks for a job that takes less just minutes.

Depends on location, works real well.

Every spring, I put an insert in the invoices for those not twice a week and extoll the virtues of more frequent service. "Get twice the service, but don't pay twice as much!"
