Hi "New Scooper" and welcome!
There's definitely plenty of room for us both. So where are you located and whate are your boundaries? Maybe I can refer some business your way. How'd you hear about this business? I have really learned to love competitors / competition so my sincerest best wishes to you. If you like I'll introduce you to our other competitors sometime. Commander Doodie is very cool.
I look forward to meeting you sometime. (And getting your name lol!)
Take care,

business on a program that was on the animal planet years ago. Been thinking about it and thinking about it and decided to go off and start a business. I have actually been in the pre-startup for a month and a half with the licenses and everything else. Working on Pricing and marketing strategy. At this time I am keeping my day job, which I do very well at. I already have workers ready to start as soon as the business grows. I have registered with Dallas,Collin, and Denton county.
Maybe I can buy you out....lol Jusk kidding....

Best wishes,

What to charge?
Tue Jan 22 12:53:43 2002
Hey All,
Maybe some of you old timers can help.
Not sure what to charge, small apt.community, 6 dogs, once or twice a week service. Anyone have any pricing charts that I can be referred to? Do I charge my basic service rate for one dog and then add a small additional charge for the remaining 5 dogs? Help...

Hi, Joe - Give us more info. How big is the area that you will clean? How many times a week will you be there? There are 6 dogs now, but may be more or less as people move in and out.
I have two H.O. assns I scoop for. I just translated them into equivalent homes for my quotes. I bill one like it is 1 1/2 homes and the other like it is 3 homes. They are happy with the fees and so am I.

I'm new here, but I would personally charge by the hour, or
Tue Jan 22 13:09:16 2002
per the amount of apartments. You don't want to go by how many dogs there are at all. You also have to take into account how big the grounds are.

the people on this board frown upon charts(as i found out)and with good reason no two jobs are the same ,so no two prices are the same.figure an hourly rate for yourself then figure out how long it would take.then add a little

Freedom, working with great animals, well compensated, it is something I built and can be proud of. It is something I did my self, so the feeling I get from being a successful business owner is worth more than the $$ (but the $$ is well worth it too! )

Be patient, think positive. I can say this for sure- when the time comes (18 months from now?) for a full blown convention, The fun, the opportunities for mentoring, fellowship, the chance to just be with other scoopers face to face will make it all worth the wait. Hang in there man!

I am glad to hear that your mother is doing o.k. It is indeed stressful having a sick parent. I was there for my mother two years ago for breast cancer and all it entailed. She is now fully recovered and doing well. One thing about this scooping business is that she sees me more often. I have clients in her area to do weekly, and she knows when I am in town. Sticking by your parent is always the best decision.
Take Care of her and yourself!

Hi Joe
I charge on a per dog basis! I start with $40.00 per month for one dog and $10.00 extra for each additional dog. That is based on an average sized yard. So if the grounds are large I would add more, smaller less. So look at the job as a whole and decide from there... and if they want more than once a week service, go for about 2/3 more than your standard once a week price... I could be wrong, but it has worked for me...NIMBY

Cooperation among Competitors
Wed Jan 23 06:41:33 2002
I noticed how friendly Red is whenever a new scooper starts in Dallas. I was wondering if Red would please do us the honor of letting us know why he is friendly with his "competition". Here at PoopScoop King, we are also friendly, and we're interested to see if Red's thinking and philosophy is similar to ours.

Hey Gene,
Didn't you know that competition builds character:) Competition is my driving force behind my business. Makes me keep going harder and faster. I also want to know who my competitors are, both professionally and personally. You never know when you and your competition can help out each other.
By the way, how's the kids?

No reason to hate your competition.

You might be competing for the same customers, but that is it. It is not a personal thing at all. Shoot, if I get my business off the ground, I would sell to Red, he seems like a nice guy. Except for a post I read where he said if you are starting up in Dallas he hoped you would DIE.lol

Re: Cooperation among Competitors
Wed Jan 23 09:23:52 2002
Hi PSK,
There are really many reasons - some selfish, some innocent.
Here are some of my thoughts on the issue:
- It's the right thing to do.
- I am naturally a very nice person (...toot my own horn there)
- In the car business I saw how "stirring the pot" (aggressive competition) can create more for everyone involved.
- I've gotten numerous referals from competitors.
- I had the opportunity to buy out competitors because of our friendship.
- I like helping people (to a point)
- Honestly, it's good to know your competition - nothing underhanded about it - it's just good to know what they're like / about.
- We're a small industry and, like this message board that I am admittedly addicted to, I like to talk shop.
- I respect someone who would have the guts to go after something as crazy as this.
- I do my best to not have enemies - as grandma says "It's bad for your constitution". - whatever that is.
- I don't talk bad about them and I certainly don't want them talking bad about me.
- There's room for all. As long as someone isn't stupid or a loser by drastically undercutting prices or attempting to steal clients then more power to them. It's my job to create the best organization possible and if someone comes along and does it better then that's my fault, not theirs. I personally believe my team is darn well close to perfection but I'm a little biased.
Hope this helps. What are your thoughts PSK?
Your bud,
